Neverwinter Nights Campaign Diary

by John Licharson

- to help you get the most out of your experience -

I began a new Neverwinter Nights Campaign game on February 9.

What follows is my diary. It, hopefully, will help you play the game better. And to get the maximum - or near to maximum - Gold and Experience as you go along.

Note on my Character

My character was Destron Syntoper, a Paladin who I created in one of the premium modules, Kingmaker.

He started out there as a Rogue, who I took to Level Five before converting to a Paladin. He ended up there as a Level two or three Paladin with lots of Gold pieces (GP henceforth) and a lot of good stuff, including a Magic Rapier for which I was able to get all kinds of extra enhancements because of the way Kingmaker plays. (You will have to play module yourself to find out how.)

So Destron had a lot of advantages coming into this new campaign.

Note on the Extra Quests and on Levelling Up

There are a lot of extra Quests you can take on while pursuing the main game by speaking to many of the characters. Doing these Quests helps you amass lots of GP and Experience Points (XP henceforth). The GP are useful for buying whatever you need from merchants. The XP are even more valuable because they allow you to level up faster. Each time you level up, you get increased Hit Points (HP henceforth) and more and better abilities, skills and spell capabilities. As you progress in levels, the number of XP levels needed to get to the next level increases.

Note on Henchman Quests

In addition to the various character and challenge Quests, each henchman has a specific Quest that you can take on in Chapter One. You have to have engaged a henchman and then you have to speak to him/her several times before he/she will revel to you a special item they are seeking. If you can find that thing and then give it to him/her, you get a magical item in return. These items give you enhanced skills, abilities and strengths. In the subsequent Chapters, there are continuations which you discover by speaking to the henchman again. Completing these increases the effects the magical item you got the first time.

Feb. 9

I started the new campaign in the training area and went through each of the rooms, eventually meeting Aribeth and then killing the invaders in the training area. That done, I met Fenthick and Dester. And that done, I went up to see Aribeth in the Temple of Tyr to get my marching orders for the Campaign itself.

(Maps are available at https://mikesrpgcenter.com/nwn/maps.html Whoever did that site deserves a LOT of credit for all the hard work he/she put into it.)

1. Before leaving the Temple of Tyr, I visited Oleff and accepted his Quest.

I also noticed Tomi Undergallows hanging about there and took him on as a henchman. He asked for 200 GP, but I got him to accept 150 by persuading in the dialogue with him.

If you are starting a brand new character, you should have just enough GP to hire him if you have been diligent about opening chests and barrels and collecting whatever you find at the training level. I took everything I found and sold everything (except what I thought was, or would, be most useful to me) to the first merchant I ran across.

2. On exiting the Temple, I spoke to the Girl at the steps who despaired about how she had to leave her home.

3. Also, I Spoke to Tomi about his Quest; Found he wants proof of his innocence. Finished this Quest by getting it. He gave me the Ring of the Rogue+1 in gratitude. It is useful in opening locked chests and defusing traps. Lots of skill enhancements & dexterity.

4. Spoke to Ophala at the Moonstone Mask and accepted her Quest. Also found that I needed a letter from Oleff to be able to go upstairs to her courtesans. See Tamara below. (If you are female character, there is a ‘Gentleman Escort’ to whom you should speak for his quest.)

5. I spoke to Giles at the Moonstone Mask and got Jacob's Quill from him. Gave to it Oleff right away. Also got from Oleff the letter to get access to the upstairs of the Moonstone Mask.

6. Spoke To Daelin, Sharwyn, Grimgnaw & Linu but did not get much info about their items. Discovered that each has to be taken on as your henchman before you can do the specific quest related dialogue with him/her.

7. Spoke to Nyatar at the big tree in front of the Temple and accepted his Quest. (Freeing the Animals in the Zoo.)

8. Spoke to Tamora in the Moonstone mask and agreed to speak to Hoff on the docks to stop him roughing her up. She gave me her brooch to help persuade Hoff not to return.

Feb. 11

9. Returned Tomi to the Trade of Blades and took on Sharwyn as my henchman. Did the conversations with her to discover her quest item. Finished her Quest. She gave me the Belt of the Performer+1 in gratitude. It will be most useful only to Bards, I think: +Charisma, Persuade & Performance skills.

11. Got the book of Halueth's Quest from the Tomb in the Great Graveyard.

12. Got the Second Waterhavian creature in the Crypts and cleared the Cult out.

13. Spoke to Gemanie who was worried about his brother, Torin. Found Torin dead and got his ring. Gave Gemanie his brother’s ring, proving him dead and he gave it back to me. (It’s value was 0 at any merchant and I never found any use for it in the rest of the game.)

14. Spoke to Bertrand in the Temple of Helm who also was worried about his missing brother, Marcus. Found Marcus's body and returned his journal and staff to Bertrand. Received thanks, reward and XP.

15. Spoke to Aldo in the Beggar’s Nest and rejoined him & Hector. Received XP.

16. Took the Yu'an Ti back to Aribeth (XP); Gave the Halueth book to Oleff (GP); and collected Sharwyn from the portal

17. Took Sharwyn back to the Trade of Blades and then engaged Boddyknock Grinkle as henchman. Had first discussion with him at the gates to No Man's land. Spoke to him a second time, got him to level up and then spoke to him again. He revealed his quest for the Leaven Bread recipe which I gave him. In gratitude he gave me the Lantanese Ring+1 (Charisma+1, Regeneration+1) and his gem of allegiance.

24. Cleared the Hodge Estate and got the Urn and letter for Ophala.

25. Cleared the Zoo and sent all the animals through the freedom portal.

26. Cleared Meldanen’s estate, but it turned out that I had to kill him after all. I freed the Dryad and got a lock of her hair. I returned the Storehouse key and his tooth to Formosa. Then I went back an gave the lock of Dryad hair to Aribeth at the Temple. (=XP&GP, unless you want to decline and move to Good)

27 Entered Tomb. Got Halueth's Rusted Armour and returned it to Oleff at the temple. (=+GP)

29. Went to Board Laid Bare and fought in the Gauntlet (after speaking to all the mercenaries back at the Trade of Blades and getting an entry pass). Received 200XP for beating the three other contestants and the ownership of the Board, which entitled me to the profits once a week.

30. Saw Nyatar at the Great Tree to confirm animals freed. (=+XP) Not a very gracious or polite person.

31. Gave Ophala Rumbottom Portrait and the Urn from Hodge. (=XP&GP)

40. Gave Aribeth the Cockatrice Feather. (=XP) The Cure for the plague was made but was immediately stolen by Desther. He and Fenthick disappeared into a portal. Charged by Aribeth to follow them quickly..

41. Went into the portal to Helms Hold. put the stone in the Altar to get the Horrors on my side. Cleared the Hold. Did the Devil quest (banned it =XP) and the Spirit of Helm quest (=XP, + choose help or magic item). Found Fenthick and learned he had been duped by Desther. Defeated Desther in the Helm's Hold no-recall-possible level. This is a very difficult fight and one should make sure one has lots of Heal or Cure Critical Wound potions and heal/protective and other enhancement spells. They will be needed. Spell/potion up and Save before going in to fight Desther. Began Chapter 2.

78. Cleared Karlat & Quint´s Chambers, summoned Belial; Got oaths from all three.

- I judged Karlat guilty and then chose to destroy the phylactery, which condemned all three to eternal entrapment. This, for Good+/or Lawful, is the correct judgement. You exit to find the town burned down, but the Mayor thanking you for saving it and then giving you 399 XP.

- I also tried finding neither brother, but only Belial guilty. That resulted only in town still being in undeath condition when I exited the Castle. (No cigar)

- I also tried finding only Quint guilty, but that resulted in town being burned down anyway and me having to fight a multitude of Red Scads. More than I wanted to have to take on! (No cigar, either)

79. Took last two Tomes to Eltoora. (=GP&XP)

80. Took the proofs of the conspiracy to Aribeth & Aarin Gend. (=XP) Off to Luskan with Boddyknock.

Feb. 23

81. Entered Luskan to see a fight going on at the first bridge. Gregor Armiste was in the midst of it. I helped him, but don’t think I got anything except a few XP. He will not challenge you anymore.

DO NOT make mistake of attacking him: He is invulnerable and will continue to attack and kill any attacker.

82. In the Wink & Tickle, I took on Erb's quest. Got the ring and gave it back to him. (=500GP)

83. Also took on Yvette's baby quest. Got her baby back to her. Paid Galvin 250GP and gave Yvette 250GP instead of taking reward. (=Pts to Good and 150XP)

84. Got Kurth & Baram keys from Rhaine.

85. In the Cutlass, I spoke to Londa who was weeping because her children had been taken by Baram and undertook to find them for her. Found her nanny in a cocoon on the way to Baram and learned that the children were dead. Went back and told her. (=113XP & the key to her husband’s vault in the Sewers. (lots of GP and other stuff) Also spoke to Elwynd and agreed to find Elvaine, whom Kurth had taken.

86. Went through the Sewers to Baram’s hide, found him, killed him (the real him, not the apparition you see when you first talk to ‘him’ on entering the sewers) and got his seal and head.

87. Told Rhaine in the Wink & Tickle that I killed Baram. (=50XP) She asked if I had got Kurth too. When I told her no, she said that things would not change much then. Remember to go back to her after you kill Kurth for more XP.

88. In exploring Luskan, you will stop in on Colmar’s store and learn about his Contrapulator. Found and operated the machine in the Luskan Sewers. You can make lots of potions. I think I got up to 10 before it stopped working.

These are the lever positions for what can be made (F= Lever Forward; B = lever Back):

                                      BBBB = Nothing

                                      FBBB = Lore

                                      FFBB = Bull's Strength

                                      FFFB = Cure Serious Wounds

                                      FFFF - Bottle of Sewage

                                      BFFF = Clarity

                                      BBFF = Cure Moderate Wounds

                                      BBBF = Cure Light Wounds

89. Reported to Colmar that I fixed it. (=250XP + Discount at his store)

Feb. 24

90. Entered the Luskan Port area. Met the Kurth projection and bargained him up to 2000GP for Baram's head and an Amulet of Will+4. He went back on word to give up Elvaine, however.

91. Cleared the Illusk Ruins. (=332XP) Killed Voleron & Mohrg (=250XP & 125XP respectively)

92. Freed Tolen Losan from Kurth's prison cells. (=Good+3)

93. Killed Kurth and freed Elvaine.

94. Told Rhaine that Kurth was dead: (=50XP)

95. Went back to Elwynd in the Cutlass and, when I declined the reward he offered for freeing Elvaine, I got 25XP instead.

96. In the Mage Tower, I spoke to Yenasha (Elk Tribe Ambassador) and learned that Aribeth would lead armies gathered by Maugrim against Neverwinter. Killed Guardian Golem (=22XP) and Yenasha (=55XP).

97. Killed the two Golems in the Atrium. (=27XP each)

98. Spoke to Gurak Entrailspiller (Orc Ambassador) and got the same information as from Yenasha. Killed him (=55XP) and the Guardian Golem (=27XP).

99. Got Aribeth's Journal and the letter of instruction on how to use the teleporters in the Tower. (=27XP from killing the Guardian Golem in her room.)

100. Cleared the 3rd Floor, but did not have Dispel Magic spell, so could not cast it on Alchemists's apparatus to make a Rod of Reversal. Lesser Dispel did not work. So I left the Slad's tongue and Gargoyle head in the desk. (Never got a Dispel spell or scroll, so didn’t bother to go back.)

Feb. 25

101. Cleared the first part of level 4. Got the two control rods to use on golem Generator to create a Helmed Horror. You have to do this because it is the only thing that can break down the door to the second part of the level.

Found Rimardo Domine there, protected by a Fire Elemental. After a fight in which I had to use several Cure Critical Wound potions, he gave up, told me about Maugrim and gave me Rings of Protection+2 and of Clear Thought+2. Told me Valindra had tablet to get to Maugrim’s level.

102. Cleared level 5. Freed Nymphithis. (=Amulet of Protection+3)

103. Cleared level 6. Killed Valindra Shadowmaster: (=117XP)

104. Killed Warden Erjack & got his key.

Spoke to Deltagar Zhelhund: He was not much help or have anything new. Cleared all the cells on level 7.

Watch out for the Lich in the second cell to the East of Deltagar. He's strong and is worth 307XP if you can kill him.

Feb. 26

105. Cleared the 8th level.

106. Cleared the Pinnacle after Aribeth & Maugrim leave.

Went down to Maugrim’s lair and killed the Stone Golem there (= lots of good stuff)

107. On the way back to the Temple to report to Aarin Gend, I accidentally discovered that you can keep killing Bloody Hand Assassins and Black Knives Infiltrators at the bridge by the Temple ad infinitum (if you wish) and keep gaining XP (@3XP & 16XP respectively).

108. Finished Chapter 2 and teleported to Beorunna's Well in Chapter 3. Talked to talk to Aarin Gend in his lodge, then picked up Sharwyn as my henchman.

Fed. 27

109. Spoke to Lilian Cambridge about how to get the first Word. Cleared the Drinking house, leaving a quartz crystal in exchange for money taken from chests. (I thought it would be nice to leave something behind. A token, and I had so many of them.)

110. Spoke to Neurik in the temple and undertook to defend Rolgar. Spoke to Edegar and Rolgar. Also spoke to Lodar at the Drinking House and found out that Griff, whom Rolgar had killed) spiked the drinks of his gambling opponents.

111. Spoke to Rolkid In the Mercenary Enclave and undertook the Clear the Supply Lines quest .

112. Spoke to Sharwyn and found she was looking for Tamolyn's Song.

113. Spoke to Husher Clay in the Trading Post and undertook the Star Sapphire quest.

114. Spoke to Yusam in the Druid Grove and undertook the Find Out what is Going on with the Elk Tribe quest.

115. Went to Coldwood, killed Vaath in Area 1 and gave his head to Rolkid: (=500GP & 312XP)

116. Went to the Wizard’s Dungeon in Area 2.

Destroyed the braziers in Southwest & Northeast rooms to stop monsters from appearing from them, killed off all the Elementals & Ghouls to clear the level.

Note that the Ghouls slow you and decrease strength, so to get back up to strength and carry on, it is necessary to use a Restoration spell/potion or Recall Stone to the Temple for healing.

117. Got the Melf's Ring in the Wizard's Dungeon and a Slad's Tongue. used them to summon the Water Elemental and had it release Nax. Note you have to speak to Nax before going to the Elemental to get it to free him.

Nax did not have Sphere to give me, but he told me how to get it.

118. Found the Gong Room, hit them in the correct order and got the Snow Globe.

Feb. 28

119. Cleared Coldwood Area 3. (=61XP)

120. Entered Layenne's Tomb. Killed the first two Lich Warriors. (=86XP+Succumbus Stone) Killed lots of subsequent monsters: Lich=86XP; Mummy=44XP; Stone Golem=117XP; Huge Fire Elemental=86XP; Succumbus=117XP (If you are able kill it after it attacks you).

If, after you give her her first item, you get the Succubus to open all the doors for you, she will do so. Note, however, that releases all of the monsters at the same time to find you. Perhaps it is better not to get her open doors until you come to one that you cannot open either by picking the lock or by bashing. If you ask for a magic item when you give her the next (or, indeed, the first) item, she gives you a Courtesan Blade.

121. Put the four Stones you have collected along the way (Pain, Duty, Misery, Honour) on the correct pedestals and the Star Sapphire becomes available on the centre pedestal. Read the tablet on each pedestal to determine which stone to put where.

122. Took Star Sapphire to Hunter Clay and got 3000GP upped by 200 after persuasion.

123.Got Grimnaw as henchman and began the conversation to find what he wants.

124. Took Snow Globe to Lilian Cambridge and she told me how to use it to get the word of power in it. (=937XP)

125. Went into the Snow Globe. Made sure it was the Dwarves that were being attacked, NOT the Dryads. If it is the Dryads being attacked when you first enter, exit right away. If you turn the Globe and then go back in, the Dwarves will be the ones being attacked.

Once in, I went first to the Dragon's lair and opened the chest (trapped!) just to the left of the entrance. You will want to be careful NOT to disturb the Dragon at this point. The broken Amulet of the Ages was in the chest.

I left the lair WITHOUT alerting the Dragon and found Hodd, the Dwarf leader. Spoke to him and got him to fix the amulet. Then, I left the Snow Globe and turned it so that, when I entered again, it was the Dwarves attacking the Dryads. Went to straight to Arwyl, the Dryad leader, and got her to make the Amulet magical again.

Then, and ONLY then, it was time to go back into the Dragon's Lair, wearing the amulet. I got the books from the book pile on the right after entering. Then I approached the Dragon. The first time, I talked to him. The second time, I was bored with the conversation and decided just to attack it and kill it. Doing so required not only wearing the Amulet, but also lots of enhancement spells. (If you don’t have a lot of HP, you may need lots of curative potions too or recalls!) Killing the Dragon =480XP. I opened chest at the back part of lair and got lots of Gems, 1500GP, two gold rings and the Word. When you pick up the Word, Haedraline appears and gives a warning.

126. I spoke to Grimnaw until he told me he needed the dagger (worth 0GP when I tried to sell it after finding it earlier) found in Coldwood. Gave it to him. (=300XP)

127. Spoke to Jevon the juror in the Mercenary Enclave. Found he had an open mind. I did not try to bribe him.

128. Back at Beorunna’s Well, in the Uthgardt Camp, I spoke to Vanda the Juror. I did not try to bribe her as I judged that would be counterproductive. I also spoke to Palla, Rolgar's wife.

129. Then I did the Trial. The Jury found Rolgar not guilty. Got a reward from Neurik. (=1000GP+781XP)

A suggestion if you do the trial, do not ever use the argument about prejudice against Uthgardts. That turns wavering jurors from Aquittal to Guilty.

130. Gave Aarin Gend the first Word of Power (=2500GP + 1500XP)

131. Took on Linu La'neral as Henchman.

Mar. 1

132. Spoke to Eckel in the Settlers Barracks in Fort Ilkard and undertook to deliver his note to his wife. Also spoke to Rolkid in the Mercenary Enclave and accepted his Commission to kill an Orc leader.

133. Spoke to the Fort Commander Damas and undertook to destroy the catapults besieging the Fort (=500G P& 312XP) and to kill the Uthgardt sub-commander Arness (=750GP & 312XP + Small shield, if you persuade Damas to give more). Damas is a class-conscious, supercilious snob, clearly racially prejudiced and a real pill to boot.

134. After destroying the catapults and bringing Arness's head to Damas, He asks you to kill Zoltan Thunder, the Uthgardt Chief of the Elk Tribe.

135. I spoke to Linu and got the whole story of how she is looking for the Seed of the Oak. Found it in a pile of Rocks near the altar site in the South of the Ruins, in the area South of Fort Ilkard. (=300XP + Upgrade of the Pendant of the Elf (+4 Dexterity +Immunity from mind spells)

136. Went into the Orc Caves Northwest of Fort Ilkard and fought my way into Guzod. Fought til he surrendered, then spoke to him and got 500GP for sparing him and then 312XP for taking another orc's head in his place and his promise never to return. Took the head to Rokild in Mercenary Enclave at Beorunna's Well. (=500GP&312XP)

137. Accepted another Commission from Rolkid: To Get the orc King Obould and bring back his head, in order to throw orc armies into confusion.

138. Returned to the Orc Cave and freed Uncas of the Elk Tribe. He gave me a Feather Token of Free Passage to allow me access to the Elk tribe headquarters without having to fight off everyone and everything.

139. Went to Homesteads, took Eckel's letter to his wife. (=300GP + 375XP) Also got the Tome of Robes for Eltoora from massacred homestead.

140. Entered the Elk tribe HQ under the Feather Token and, opening chests, barrels and crates in various rooms, got the Ashes of the Running Wolf. Also got Islegood's Complete History of Flight, of Horses and of Seafaring in other rooms. I used these books to open doors to and in the treasure room in the Southeast of HQ.

141. Freed two prisoners on my way to Zokan, the leader. ( =@100XP)

142. Spoke to Zokan who told me that Damas had created the hostility to the Neverwinter cause by giving them infected blankets which spread the plague. I agreed to go back to Damas with the blankets as proof that he had infected the tribe and to get the cure for the plague from him.

143. I then went back to Damas and confronted him. He admitted what he had done, but then tried to sell me the cure. I got so angry that I just killed the SOB then and there. No war effort needs self-serving dregs like Damas! Several Knights came in and attacked me, so I had to kill them too. (=@22XP) Several may do so later, as well, but the satisfaction of doing away with Damas is worth it.

144. I then took the cure back to Zoltan. (=625XP, Uthgardt Spear and Dreamcatcher to take back to Yusam)

145. I took the Dreamcatcher back to Yusam in Beorunna’s Well. (=750XP + Ring of Elemental Resistance -15/ proof against damage from elements)

146. I then took on Tomi as a henchman and, after getting him to tell me his story, gave him the Ashes of the Running Wolf. =300XP and the Ring of the Rogue+4.

147. In the Creator Ruins, I spoke to Sapphira and took on her Seed Planting quest. She gave me the Utarg seeds, the time crystal and the Book "Principles of Time Travel".

148. I spoke a Guardian Slave and learned that I had to go back in time to introduce weaknesses to the Guardian Golems. Otherwise, they are invulnerable in the present.

149. So, I went back in time. Persuaded three slaves to build in weakness to stabbing and slashing. Also planted the Utarg seeds. (= 2 Diamonds + 350XP when you go back to Sapphira in the present) Eventually, I got to Lokar, the Slave leader, who gave me his ring to help persuade the other slaves to cooperate in introducing weaknesses, although by then I had already persuaded the others to do so.

150. Back in the present, I killed all the Guardian Golems, solved all the riddles and killed the Balor Lord. (=600XP)

151. Back in Beorunna’s Well, I gave the Word of Power to Aarin Gend. (=3000GP+1500XP)

152. Took Daelin as a henchman and went to Orcs' cave. Got Obould to surrender. I decided to let him give me another orc's head instead of killing him, under his promise to go away forever. (= 130XP + 1200GP)

153. Took Obould's (proxy) head to Rolkid back in Fort Ilkard. = 1000GP + 625XP.

154. Daelin did not tell me last part of his story, so when he got killed in Obould's caves, I did not bother re-engage him. I took Boddyknock instead. He, after levelling up told me his whole tale and his quest for the Dragon Scale just after we had entered the Moonwood Area 2.

Mar. 2

155. There was not much of great difficulty in Area 1. Cleared the Giants & Ogres from Area 2. Spoke to Akulatraxas and learned she wanted the Hill Giant's head. Entered the Hill Giant caves, cleared the first level and second level. Hill Giants killed. (=@18 or 24XP) On the second level, I freed the prisoner in the West area from the Giant Cook (=100XP) and then a second prisoner behind a door off the same area. (=100XP)

156. Killed the Hill Giant Chieftain. (=480XP) I decided at this point to bash all chests, barrels and crates so that the empties would not confuse the issue when I went about recovering treasure or gold. Also because I was feeling generally ornery. Then I went back to Akulatraxas and gave her the head. (= 1000GP + 750XP)

157. Then, after some thought, I decided to kill Akulatraxas. That required the use of all my spells (Magic Weapon, Aid, Bless, a Potion of invisibility and a couple of Stone of Recall extractions and rests (and respelling at each) before finally killing her. (=480XP, + lots of gold & swag from chests in room where she kept her egg). I also took the egg. It is not good for general morale have dragons roaming around with impunity.

158. Entered the Spine of the World. (=110XP Cleared the area. (Cultist Archer, Ogre Berserker or Troll =@3XP; Cultist Leader = 12XP; Fire Giant =@36XP)

159. Entered the Brass Dragon cave. A Dragon and lots of Giants were all dead. Got the Dragon scale from pile of rubble and gave it to Boddyknock. He gave me the Ring of Porphyro in gratitude. (=Charisma+4 & Regeneration+1)

Mar. 3

160. Started off by making a mistake: Attacking and killing the Dragon Gorgotha instead of accepting her quest to kill Skrogg. (=480XP + 4 point shift to Evil) There was not much good treasure in the cave afterward either. Oh yes, also got her golden egg.

161. In the Fire Giant Caves Area 1, I freed Wogar. I paid him 300 GP for information, but it was not worth much and I got no XP.

162. Cleared Area 2. There was not much exciting there except for lots of Fire Giants, Dueregars and Dire Spiders. (Need lots of antidote potion to keep going!)

163. Cleared the Death Slad Lords. This was a major battle requiring three recall teleports. (=322XP)

164. Killed the Blue Dragon. I put the sphere on the pedestal and got the Dead Dragon Sphere. (=372XP) Killed the two Yuan-tis. (=@13XP)

165. Ran into Fire Giant Champion and killed him, without having to spell up. (=322XP)

166. Killed Klauth. Even after giving him the Dead Dragon Sphere to weaken him, I had to recall teleport three times before being able to land the fatal blow. (=480XP) The chest behind him gave 4500GP and lots of other good stuff.

167. Something to remember: Once Klauth is dead, the path into the area is blocked. The only way back out is to use the teleport portal after Haedraline speaks to you.

169. Oh yes! Also, I put the Gold and Green dragon eggs down by the entrance to the Fire Giant Cave before going down to Klauth. They were gone when I teleported out of Klauth's Lair and made my way back out of the area..

170. Recall teleported back to Beorunna's Well and sold off all of the stuff I had accumulated. I was then a Million+-aire. I equipped the Red Dragon Armour that I had got from one of the chests and sold the Copper Dragon Armour I was wearing, mainly because the former reduced weight by 80% (as opposed to 60%) and the protections seemed equivalent. I am still not sure how wise a move that was, even though the level of damage I received did not change much. The weight factor is probably a good enough reason.

I dropped off all of the special books and other items that had 0 resale value in the Temple of Tyr. I did keep Klauth's head as a souvenir, though.

171. Then I went to Aarin Gend's Lodge and took Tomi as my henchman for Chapter 4, for old time's sake. Any of the other henchmen would probably have been as good thenceforward, but I am sentimental.

172. I gave the last Word of Power to Aarin Gend. He then teleported us back to Neverwinter.

Mar. 4

172. In the Nasher Castle, I spoke to Lord Nasher & Aarin Gend and got my marching orders. Then I spoke Haedraline and went off to get the Word from Maugrim.

173. Spoke to Luce in the Moonstone Mask. Undertook to find her sister Leesa.

174. Spoke to Trancar in the Trade of blades and undertook to destroy the catapults and kill the War Golems.

175. Went into the War Zone, killed the first Golem control Mage, a bunch of Golems, Giants, assorted Luskan Captains and other riff-raff. (=forgot to take notes) Destroyed the catapults.

176. Spoke to Asgard and he told me of his secret door in to Maugrim's fortress.

177. Then I went back out to the North, found Leesa and sent her back to Luce.

178. Went back to Asgard’s house, through the secret passage, killed the second Golem control Mage and assorted other bad guys.

179. Returned to Moonstone Mask, saw Luce. In gratitude for sending Leesa back (=500XP), she offered me her cloak. When I told her to keep it, I was moved +10 to Good.

180. Returned and reported to Trancar in the Trade of Blades. (=1000XP)

181. Went back to the War Zone. Entered Maugrim’s Guardhouse. First ran into a Luskan Cleric, Mage and assorted other bad guys. Hard fight. ( =+/-50XP) Had to spell up and recall a couple of times to survive and then prevail. Proceeding through the next door, I ran into a Half Dragon Balor. Another hard fight, but worth a lot more. (=480XP)

182. Encountered Aribeth in Maugrim's Sanctuary anteroom. Tried to persuade her to return, but she refused. had to kill her in self-defence in the end. (=600XP)

183. Found Maugrim protected by Several Servants of the Dead Flesh. (=@94XP) Killed Maugrim himself. (=403XP) Found the Last Word and Maugrim's Journal. Recalled back to Temple of Tyr and retrieved Tomi.

184. Returned to Castle. Spoke to Gend, Nasher and haedraline. Agreed to enter the Source Stone.

185. Met Master Ford in the Castle Cellars. Put the fourth Word on its pedestal and entered the Source Stone. Inside, I met Asheera who gave me her Amulet, needed for protection farther along the way. Killed Old Warriors (=@75-164XP); Old Evokers (=@227XP); Lizardman Chieftain (=@277XP).

Mar. 5

186. Entered the Guardian Lair and Killed the Corrupted Silver Dragon and the Corrupted Copper Dragon. (=@400XP) Acquired the two Guardian Keys. There was nothing else of value in the Guardian Lair.

187. Recalled back to the Temple and bought lots and lots of Heal potions and equipped them to my first level Quickslots. Also, 10 Speed potions.

187. Entered the Inner Sanctum. Tomi got killed while we were fighting the Warriors, Cleric and Mage in the anteroom. Once those were killed I went through the door to face Morag. I was sorry to have lost Tomi. If I had kept my head a bit better during the fight in this area, I could have used a Heal potion or two on him and perhaps kept him alive. (Another reason to make liberal use of the Pause function in the game.)

188. I dispensed with talking to Morag and went straight to one of the cocoons holding Morag's hands. Both Hands then came at me, but killing them was not tremendously hard. It is probably best to kill them first as your first priority, however, because they can cause a lot of damage if you try other things first.

188. I then smashed the Statue in front of Morag's Throne in order to stop the spearing rocks trap. You have to do that in order to be able to get at Morag's protectors. You have to destroy or kill the protector most appropriate for the weapon you are carrying in order to be able to damage Morag. Otherwise you will find yourself flailing away until you are killed. I was equipped with a Magic Rapier and Ichthia's Neck-knife in my off hand, so I (mistakenly) first spent a lot of time trying to kill the Sword and Blade protector without doing any damage.

189. In frustration, I went after the Protector against Lessers and after a bit managed to kill it so I could get at Morag. All this time, several other monsters kept coming at me. It is best to kill each as they attack and then return to the Protector. Morag was also attacking at the same time, but I did not waste any time on her because it is impossible to hurt her until the correct Protector is killed.

190. I was lucky in all the fighting in that I had equipped a Ring of Regeneration+2 and had a special additional regeneration property on my magic Rapier. So, I kept regaining HP damage with every blow I was able to land. Otherwise, I would have probably had to use all of the heal potions I had bought before entering the no return zone of the Sanctum.

191. Once you've killed Morag, the end of the game is a bit of an anticlimax. You enter, speak to Haedraline. She tells you a bit about your future, the Source stone collapses and then the game is over with an automated bit telling you how great you are and the end credits.
